Steel met scale armor as the two forces collided. The sword barely made a dent and before he could swing again he had to dodge a clawed hand. A low duck to avoid the tail and then a leap to grab it. The tail whiplashed him back through the air to hit the ground with a loud thud. Ok, so this wasn't going as planned, no matter. He stood back up to lock eyes with the enormous beast. Another dragon to threaten his kingdom. It'd no longer terrorize the lands when he was through with it. Back into the fray Rowen, your job wasn't done yet. He charged, giving his battle cry as the dragon roared, rotten meat spewing out of its gaping maw. Rowen loved it, loved every second of this battle. It was if he was born to fight, bred specifically to fight these beasts of death. His sword flashed a brilliant blue, a roar sounding out across the battlefield. Vus had been stirred by this battle, his power pouring into the sword. Rowen smirked, knowing what that entailed and he screamed louder as he approached. A power slide to avoid the clawed hand and then a leap upwards to thrust the sword into its underbelly, the swords power driving it further and through the scales. Direct hit, blood freely flowed from the wound, seeping out all around the sword. The dragon roared and Rowen pulled his sword out before leaping out of the way of another swipe. The dragon's hand went to his wound and his eyes flew towards Rowen. The golden eyes turned red and the beast lowered its head. Rowen got into position, his shield up in front of him to block the next attack. A torrent of flame came bursting out of the beast's mouth and hit against the shield, ricocheting off to the side. When the dragon realized the fire was doing nothing he stopped, breathing heavily now.
"Sue vus tenell! Tanes taloke mahk!" It roared at him in its language and Rowen's sword flared up again. "Your death approaches! Die well warrior!" The sword's magic translating its words inside his head.
"We'll see about that." Rowen smirked, his shield raised up to cover him the best and his sword rested against the shield's side as he began to run. He charged once more, his shield blocking a blow from its hand but a swipe from its plated neck sent him flying to the side, his shield flying off. In a second the dragon was upon him. It's head lunged downward to gobble him up but instead it found a sword enlodged in its mouth, preventing him from closing his jaws around the human. The sword started to glow blue and as the dragon tried to snap it in half by crunching down on it more, it ended up launching the sword clear through the roof of its mouth to come shooting out of its snout, a bloody wound left in its wake. The sword fell beside Rowen and he was quick to pick it up and run. The dragon cried in pain, back peddling before it felt something on its back. Rowen had climbed up the tail and was running along its back. Before he could reach the head the beast started to roll, intent on crushing him but Rowen had been counting on this. He started to run along its side. He had to time it right and in the next split second he leapt up wards, his sword clasped in both hands as he thrust it downward. It hit at the right moment and Rowen laughed as the dragon cried. "Checkmate you bloody overgrown bat!" The sword had found its way to the dragons heart, cutting into its side and letting it leak out its life's blood from within. Its cries of pain soon ended and the beast drew its last breath before passing from this world and into the next. Rowen wiped the sweat off his brow before pulling the sword out and jumping off of its chest. They were close to the dragon forest and the beasts would feast on this corpse, making it disappear in just under a day.
As he walked towards his shield a distant roar echoed out. It seems the meat eaters had already caught scent of the fresh meal as well as the smell of blood. Well he wasn't going to stick around to see just what else would come out of that forest. The roar echoed out again, closer this time, Rowen cussed as he started to jog away from the scene. Another roar and then another and finally a third. He guessed things were starving in that forest for them to be on such a fresh meal within seconds of its death. He could hear the familiar wing beats and he hurried up his running. He didn't look back but somewhere in his head he knew it to be too late. He was gambling on the fact they'd rather eat the huge meal before them instead of the tiny human running away from the scene. He was wrong, dead wrong. Something large landed in front of him, the ground shaking. He strained his eyes to see it but it was completely invisible. Curse dragon magic, was it any wonder why humans generally feared and hated them? He lifted up his sword, an aura of blue encircling it. The aura extended out about two inches around the sword and his eyes looked through it to the beast standing in front of him. Vus' magic let him see for himself just what didn't wish him to leave. A large blood red dragon stood before him looking mighty and majestic. It was larger then the one he had killed, this was a problem. He turned to look behind him to see two more dragons that were standing beside the body. One was Blue and the other a pure white. They weren't eating the body however, they seemed to be mourning it. Damn, that wasn't good, it was a family group.
"Ves tantell shanuk veal hooman. Vusa hoosh telans! Uanthinal valhullo." His eyes traveled back to the invisible one as it spoke to him. "You have slain our brother human. This will not go unpunished! Say goodbye." His eyes widened as he watched the dragon charge towards him. He jumped out of the way and rolled as it stomped on where he was just standing before turning towards him. "Vahals sooth satha magika hooman" "Interesting sword of magic human." A roar erupted from his sword and into their minds and the dragon snarled. "You make interesting friends!" The words were beginning to translate normally now, the beauty of magic he supposed.
"Thrust the sword into her."Vus's words whispered into his mind and Rowen grinned.
"I don't think we will meet him before we kill you however. Why the grin human?" She asked, her eyes weary. This one did kill their brother after all, he wasn't a weak ordinary human after all.
"Oh I think this fight will be more interesting if we could all see each other eh?" He put every ounce of power into thrusting his sword as he vaulted it and watched it sail through the air and plunge into the beasts awaiting hand. The dragon laughed as she plucked the sword out and tossed it back at Rowen. Rowen continued to grin as he picked it up and folded his arms across his chest. A blue aura poured out of the wound in her hands and dispelled her magic, making her visible to the naked eye.
"Still with the grin?! What was that tiny little thing supposed to do hmmm? Merely a pin prick you sad little human."
"Sister...you're visible." The white one was approaching now, his eyes wide. Rowen studied the other dragons as they approached. The white one was smaller then the other two but he seemed pretty agile for a dragon. Speed, he was the speed of the family. The blue one looked tough, old scars lay strewn across his body. Strength, he looked like he could take a hit and keep on going. Now, the big red one? What was she? She had been invisible, stealth and brains perhaps? Yeah that seemed about right, she was cocky enough it seemed to act like the brains. Well this was quite the trio and they all wanted vengeance. Dragon's weren't the best beasts to tick off but it was his job to take down all dragons that threatened humans and these three seeking blood would definitely become a threat sooner or later. Vengeance, oh he knew that feeling all so well. He could feel it burning in his blood, the fire underneath the skin that tore through his body. Yes, oh yes he felt exactly what they were feeling.
"If you lot want vengeance then come on! Words are the weapon of women folk, your brother died like a warrior, fighting! So how you going to go down? Talking?!" He beat his sword against his shield three times. "Fight me!" Again he beat his shield, he was not afraid to die and in impossible odds it'd be as good a time as any. It was a shame his order wasn't here to fight beside him. They were off on their own dragon slaying missions and he had chosen to come alone. Now he'd pay the price for it, it seemed, but it wasn't going to be easy.
"All this talk is making my scales itch, enough!" The blue one roared and charged forward, the red dragon stepping aside. Rowen had been charged before and this big blue brute wasn't going to be any different then the others. He jumped and rolled to the side, his shield coming up to his head in time to feel a clawed hand swipe it, knocking it straight into his head and flinging him backwards. Oh he was going to feel that one later. His vision was blurred for a few seconds as he got to his feet. Two blue dragons seemed to be charging him and once his eyes focused he was picked up and brought to the dragons face. It opened its maw and roared in his face, the stench of meat overpowering him. Rowen struggled and got his sword hand free and stabbed the beast in the hand, making him drop Rowen to the ground. He had enough time to bring his shield up as the beast's head reared back and then showered the knight with a torrent of fire. The shield reflected it back directly at the dragon this time, burning him in the face as he stumbled backwards. This only seemed to piss him off more as he charged forward and tried to rake Rowen with his claws. The claws hit the metal sword and flung Rowen back once more, his body hitting the ground hard as he rolled. Once he stopped the dragon was back in his face, a clawed hand shooting downwards to crush the human once and for all. Rowen rolled away in time and got to his feet in a flash. A hard thing to do when one was wearing heavy armor but he managed. His body was aching but he ignored the pain and ran underneath the dragon, thrusting his sword upwards into the chest and slicing his way downwards. He managed to slash him twice before the dragon retaliated and swiped him away, again flinging him off to the side. It took a few moments for him to recover and get back to his feet. His sword and shield were up and his sword banged against his shield once more. The dragon felt across the wounds on his chest, two more scars to add to his collection.
"Come brother and sister, lets share in this fun! This one has spunk! Lets make him last a little bit." The blue one grinned sinisterly as the three of them began to close the distance. The white one was upon him in a flash and before Rowen could do anything it had him in his mouth before he flung him outwards towards the rest of his family. He had dropped his shield and sword and cursed as he flew through the air. The red dragon caught Rowen by his feet, the teeth weren't crushing him however. It was an interesting thing to think about, how delicately dragons could really pick things up in their jaws without crushing it. The blue dragon picked up Rowens front half and the human found himself staring inside the mouth of the brute. Was this how it was to end? They started to pull in opposite directions, slowly at first, making the pain last as they continued to back up and pull. Until finally he couldn't take it anymore. Suddenly the dragons spit him out and he fell from a two story drop and hit the ground hard. He groaned as he rolled over and got back to his feet. His sword and shield were spat out beside him.
"Fight human!" They were just toying with him, giving him his weapons like they didn't even matter. Well that was a mistake, he'd show them. He charged the blue dragon, making him rear up on two legs and swipe at him, his shield knocking a swipe to the side before did a leaping jump and sunk his blade straight through the scales on his chest. He hung onto his sword, his legs dangling in the air. The dragon roared as Rowen pushed with all his might downwards, making the blade slice down with him, cutting open flesh. He was swiped off by the white dragon, making him soar through the air head first, his hands gripping his sword and shield before a clawed hand raked him in midair, his chest plate catching the entire blow. His body slammed down to the ground hard, his chest plate torn up revealing a shredded shirt underneath and a fresh scar on Rowen's chest. It was bleeding but it could be ignored. He got back to his feet and took the remnants of his chest plate off, letting it hit the ground. The blue dragon's hand covered his deep wound on his chest. Rowen knew he had to be hurting, that would be one large scar when it healed. The white dragon that had knocked him off was waiting for him to make a move and Rowen grinned.
"Enough! Time to end this little game before he does any real damage!" The red dragon roared and the white dragon gave a nod.
"Time to die." The white dragon snarled and raced towards him. In two bounds he was on top of him and Rowen's shield was up. The first swipe knocked it away and just as the dragon was about to deliver the killing blow, Rowen threw his sword as hard as he could towards his heart. It soared through the air and hit the chest. The dragon coughed and pulled it out. It had missed and hit its lung instead, not a killing blow but a harsh one none the less. Well he had left his mark on these beasts, if it was time to go then he'd go out in style. The dragon coughed up blood as he knocked out the sword and let it fall to the ground. He was quick to retaliate, he was going to swallow Rowen whole. Rowen rolled and grabbed his sword, he wouldn't be eaten without a fight! Just as the dragon reared its head back and shot it outward, something impacted along its side, and the dragon was gone in a flash. Rowen had to look all around before he saw it. Vus had the white dragon pinned to the ground, his massive legs slowly crushing the life out of him.
"You bastard, this is my fight! That's my kill! I was winning!" Rowen shouted, grinning from ear to ear. He spat out some blood on the grass and went to retrieve his shield. He was looking over to the red and blue dragon now, they were staring at Vus, sizing him up. He towered over them, the biggest dragon species in the world and it wasn't on their side.
"Sorry I'm late, but I couldn't let anyone else kill you but me. You're my kill, not theirs." He growled and the red dragon hissed.
"You fight for the human! He has killed our brother, you're a traitor!"
"I was listening female, your brother got what was coming to him. Leave the humans alone until they don't leave you alone. They come into our forest then it's their own lives at risk. You eat their cattle or attack their kingdom, then it's your own fault!" Vus roared and the female flinched.
"We are superior! We dragons do what we wish!"
"If we're so superior, then why are we dying out to these humans?" The question had much more sting in it then Rowen would ever be able to comprehend. Rowen smirked as he twirled his sword in his hand. He pounded his shield again, three times. His blood was getting pumped up and he couldn't wait for more of this battle. The blue dragon snarled at Rowen before his hind leg scratched at his plates, much like a dog with an itch.
"All this talk! Talk talk talk, I think the human want's some more! Sister, free our weak brother and I'll take care of this human!"
"With pleasure." The red dragon turned invisible, Vus' magic having worn off. It didn't matter though, Vus's magic was powerful, being from a power clutch. He could break just about anything by using his mind to focus his own power. He closed his eyes as his mind reached out for the female. Once he found her she froze in place, a battle of magic inside of the mind. The two found themselves in a large dark room and in the middle was a red wall of solid magic. The female's defense and Vus laughed. Focusing his all of his magic into a blue mass on his side of the wall, he formed a sword. A massive blue sword that he then sent soaring at the wall. Once it hit the explosion echoed through out their minds. The wall was cracked and bits and pieces of it started to crumble. He was quick to form another sword and sent that one hurling towards the wall, destroying it. His last sword was sent spiraling to the other side and hit pay dirt, the female screamed out loud and she blinked back into being visible. She growled and charged and just as she got close enough he stamped down on the white dragon's head, hearing the skull crack and break. This enraged the female into seeing red as she rammed into vus, sending them tumbling on the ground, rolling over each other while they bit down and slashed at one another.
The fight with the human was going no better. The blue dragon had charged and knocked Rowen clear into the next week. When he landed he landed hard, his shield had luckily taken the brunt of the blow. The dragon was upon him in an instant and when he went to crush Rowen with his hand, a sword found its way into it, slashing and hacking until the dragon turned and let his tail knocked Rowen into a tree. They were on the edge of the forest now, the fight taking them into dangerous territory. The forest was dangerous for all, not just humans but dragons as well. You never knew what was hungry or watching. The fight continued as the blue dragon continued to bleed. Rowen suddenly got an idea and went to work. He ducked as a swipe missed him by a hair and snapped a few trees like they were toothpicks. He ran around the dragon as he turned and jumped on its back. The dragon tried to shake him down but to no avail. Rowen ran along its back and then sunk the blade deep into its neck. The beast roared and took off, its wings flapping like mad as they flew through the air. Rowen hung onto the hilt as they soared upwards into the sky. His legs were dangling in the air as he held on for dear life. The beast leveled out and Rowen got his footing. If the beast didn't come back down to earth then he couldn't kill it. He did a leap onto one of its wings and slashed with his sword. The dragon cried out in pain and plummeted back down to earth at an alarming rate, Rowen along with it. The idea had gone better in his head admittedly but oh well. The dragon fell out of his reach as he plummeted downwards towards earth. He sheathed his sword, wary about it impaling him if he ever survived impact. The dragon hit the ground first, a loud and earth shattering sound as the ground shook. There was only one way he'd make it out of this and he tried swimming through the air until he struck a branch, then another, and another, until he fell down against the hard, bloody, scaled chest of the dragon. The wind was knocked out of him and he barely had enough strength to roll off of the dragon and into another drop. When he hit the ground he gritted his teeth in pain. Ohhhh that hurt.
Vus had the upper hand until the female took to the air, soaring away from the big brute. She had a gash along the side of her face as well as a few large claw marks in her side. There was also a bite mark along the side of her neck that was bleeding profusely. Vus chased after her, his mighty wingspan beating against the ground as he too took off into the air. He had his own scars from this battle. His neck was bleeding, his chest was bleeding and he had a nasty gash on the top of his head. She turned to face him at the last second and their claws interlocked as they continued the battle in the air. Their teeth bit down hard but Vus's bite had more too it and soon she was struggling to get away again but the large black dragon wouldn't let her, his claws kept her hooked against him. He flapped his wings to bring them higher until he dove downwards, taking her with him. Like eagles they fell out of the sky, interlocked and spiraling. It was also how they mated but his mind was filled with bloodlust as was hers. The plummeted at an insane speed until the last moment when Vus let her go and leveled out, his belly gliding against the grass as he slowed himself. The female didn't get off so lucky. The impact had also shaken the ground, and her neck had snapped upon landing. She was dead, now all that left was the blue brute.
Back with Rowen, he was still laying on his back, trying to catch his breath. His body was bleeding, bruised, soar and partially broken but he still had a job to do. He struggled to his side, nearly blacking out but he managed to then move to his knees. He could hear the breath of the blue dragon, labored but still there. The wound on his neck was bleeding profusely but that didn't matter to Rowen anymore. He slowly wobbled up to his feet and turned to stare at the beast. The dragon pulled the sword out of his neck slowly and flung it in the air. It landed near enough to Rowen that he stumbled his way to it and picked it up.
"Finish...it." The dragon gasped for air. Rowen walked over to its head, staring into one of its large eyes. A rustle from within the forest drew his attention away and Rowen started to back away slowly. "Finish...it...coward! Too...scared?" The dragon growled and Rowen shook his head.
"I'm not the one whose hungry." Rowen spat back and smirked. His plan had worked it seemed. Cut enough into the dragon to get him bleeding a lot...and the meat eaters would catch his scent. He watched as something large took ahold of one of the wings and start to drag the wounded dragon into the forest.
"No! I'm...still breathing! You can't!" It was too late, as the dragon disappeared into the forest a sickening cry echoed out before a crunch and it was over.
"How about a lift?" Rowen was startled as he turned to stare at Vus, who was also looking into the forest. "Even I can't see what lies in there all the time. There are beasts in there that even dragons fear and leave alone...and it's our forest." He smirked and shook his massive head. "Come, before our blood tempts them to leave the forest's depths. It's time I went back to the cave. A battle well fought..." Vus turned around slowly lay down. Rowen shook his head and did his best to climb up his back and lay down against his spine. His sword and shield rested against his chest and he closed his eyes.
"You didn't have to help, I had them beat. Just another minute and you'd have arrived too see them all dead. You bastard, next time you fight something, I'll swoop in and kill it before you can." Vus chuckled and shook his head. He didn't know why he had come in to the rescue, he didn't even like Rowen. Rowen hadn't commanded him to help out, so he wasn't being controlled. Perhaps it was something to ponder over later in the cave when he nursed his wounds? Either way it was time to leave and he slowly made his way over to the kingdom's walls. The guards at the walls knew who he was but they still feared him, as they rightfully should. Who knew when Rowen wouldn't be in control over him anymore?
"Halt foul beast!" One of them shouted and Vus lay down. "Is that Rowen?! What have you done?! Men, get ready to kill the monster!"
"I'm alive you idiot!" Rowen shouted and rolled off Vus as smoothly as he could. It ended with him face planting the ground and he groaned. Oh yeah, he needed some bed rest...yeah right. A mug of mead perhaps? With Rowen safely deposited at the kingdom's walls, he turned around and took off. He gave his wings some extra strength so that the wind from him taking off would knock a few guards off the wall. He grinning when he heard them cussing and landing against the earth. Rowen got back to his feet and waved off the guard's attempts to help him. He didn't need their help, or anyone's right now. He slowly made his way back home, a hand covering his chest. Blood dripped around his had but he ignored it. When he arrived home he put on the appropriate amount of healing herb and then bandaged himself up the best he could before walking over to a drawer and pulling out another chest plate. It was good he got whatever armor or weapon's he desired for free, he'd need it all. He let out a sigh before letting the chest plate pop back down in the drawer and he moved over to his bed and fell in it, giving out one last groan before falling asleep. Five minutes later there was frantic knocking against his door.
"Rowen come quick! A group of Griffin's are terrorizing the castle! The king needs you now!" Rowen's eyes slid open and he sighed, his hands pushing against the bed as he rose up again.
