EMILY LAUREN MAGUIRE
GODSPEED THIS LETTER AWAY FROM HERE
i've sealed it with my tears
and stamped it with my fears
i've sealed it with my tears
and stamped it with my fears
•• nicknames: Miss Emily or Miss Maguire
•• age: 31 years
•• birth era: Old West
•• date of birth: January 15, 1851
•• as portrayed by: Lucy Lawless
•• your character’s body: Emily is just above average for a woman of the western era. She stands around 5’7”, maybe a hair over. She keeps her body fit, or thin at least. She is very conscious of her body and her health and doesn’t do anything to deteriorate either. Her weight is maintained around 145, even if she doesn’t know exactly how much she weighs. She has the body of an athlete, somewhat. She is lean and thin but not as exaggerated as a model, that disgusts her. She will not tolerate her girls looking like that either. Emily has no low confidence in her appearance. She knows she looks good and she has no problem telling men when they think otherwise.
With dark brown hair, Emily’s light skin seems even lighter. But she keeps her skin smooth and doesn’t mind the lightless, much like most women of her time. Her thin, dark hair falls a few inches below her shoulders. Her eyes are semi-dark, somewhere between navy and midnight blue. Emily’s face is totally made up of soft features; full red lips, small, curved nose, mid-set cheekbones with a light, natural blush.
MY WORK HERE IS THROUGH
i’m on my way to better days
and so are you
i’m on my way to better days
and so are you
•• likes: being in charge, animals, helping people, looking at the stars, books, staying up late, listening to guitars, small places, being busy
•• dislikes: wearing her hair up, being ordered around, when her services are taken advantage of, cleaning, insects, early mornings, disappointing people, public speaking, being late, alcohol
•• general personality: Emily is a generally kind-hearted person. If you need a favor done, she is the girl to go to. When it comes to helping people, you could almost say Emily is a rug; She has a difficult time telling people no as she doesn’t like to face their disappointment. She loves to help and is always doing so with a smile. This includes keeping the men entertained at the saloon. Though she isn’t expected to do much out front, Emily still finds herself around the tables, cracking jokes and flirting and letting the men buy her “drinks”. These drinks are actually water, though the men don’t know the difference. Emily deosn't like alcohol and she refuses to drink. She also refuses to sleep with the men and they know not to get hands-y with her.
With the saloon, Emily is very business like. She takes care of everything with perfect efficiency; Never having paid a bill late and doing her best to get Woody out of his inherited debt to the bank. She deals with the banker and tax collectors coolly and effectively. Her demeanor when dealing with business is formal though she throws in a light tone every now and then to keep people on their toes. Anything Emily does can be expected to be top quality and up to expectations. She, however, keeps a humble opinion of her own abilities.
She is good with facts and figures but when it comes down to reading people, she is at a loss. Emily can read general emotions but often has a more difficult time locating the source of that emotion or the true depth of that emotion. Thus, she has problems reading them from herself as well. She has little trust in her own feelings and prefers to make decisions based on logic and facts rather than her opinions or feelings. Although, if a theory is proved successful, she would take the risk and try that rather than use a proven method. Emily keeps emotions to herself unless she is trying to make someone else feel better, trying to be sympathetic. When brought into a one-on-one situation with someone she likes, Emily is sweet, friendly, and on the quiet side. And difficult as it is for her sometimes, she can have a tough exterior when needed. She likes to flirt but knows the various limits with different men.
To all on the outside, Emily is a perfectly kept together woman. She has it all; intelligence, friends, a good heart, and loyalty. Emily, however, knows better than to believe them. Only she knows her true thoughts. Emily has an interesting twist on her friendships. She forms them easily enough, though keeping them on surface level for the most part. Only a select few are actually refered to as friends. And even these she can let slide back to a surface level friendship at times. But with time, Emily sometimes finds herself bored, or too easily aggrivated by a friend. At this, Emily lets the friendship slide until either the other person picks up the slack and brings her back to reality or the friendship dies. But, as time has passed, Emily has realized this and does her best to keep attention on her friendships. If you are a surface level friend, don't make the mistake of thinking she doesn't care; She does. It is just that Emily doesn't feel the need to keep many people close to her. In fact, even in her closest friends, there is never one who knows everything about her. To give herself up like that, Emily believes, is the definition of desperate and needy.
•• hometown: Hooker
•• job(s): Saloon's Madame
•• general history: Emily had a fairly normal childhood. She was raised on a farm on the outskirts of Hooker. Thomas was nearly 6 years older than she was and he was a good brother to her. Emily really admired him as she grew up. She never connected as much with her younger siblings because she was too focused on the attention Thomas gave her. When she got her first few boyfriends, Thomas was always there to meet him, to keep his baby sister safe. When he was 25, he met a girl he would call his wife. Unfortunately, his parents did not approve and Thomas thus decided he and Caroline would run off together. At the age of 19, this left Emily devastated and upset with her parents. She did the only thing she could think of… she ran away. Not far, just into Hooker and right into the arms of the saloon keeper, Scott Wood. Upon her insistent begging, he agreed to give the teen a job. It took Emily only 4 years to prove her dedication and management skills to Woody and she stepped up as Madam, taking over the management part of the saloon while he stepped to the side.
Her parents came looking for her almost immediately, begging her to come home but she refused, she would not forgive them for making her brother, her idol, leave. She never did go home, preferring her room in the saloon’s hotel. As Madam, she is not obliged to share with any of the girls, though she does allow the newest girls to stay in her room for a month or so while they adjust to the new life.
